Winter as rest – reflections from Båsenberga's sales and marketing manager

As the year draws to a close, I, as Sales and Marketing Manager at Båsenberga, have begun to reflect on everything that has happened in 2025. I have followed trends, seen campaigns and listened to different voices – both in the world of travel and in everyday life here in Sweden. Visit Sweden's campaign about prescribed activities and the art of being bored has really inspired me, but it is also something I feel in my body.

There is a clear need – both in myself and in many people I meet. In the yoga room, in conversations with friends, in contact with guests, the same longing is heard: for stillness, for time to slow down, for living more in tune with nature. We often forget that nature is already resting now, during winter. The trees are still, the lake is quiet, the ground is resting. And perhaps we should do the same.

When nature slows down

In nature, winter is not empty – it is preparatory. What is not visible above ground is happening in silence. The roots are strengthening. Energy is gathering. Life is preparing for spring. We often have a tendency to forget that. We continue at the same pace, regardless of light, season or need. But the body remembers. And longs for something else. Perhaps that is why so many people are currently drawn to the idea of stillness, slowness and not always having to fill every moment.

The art of being bored – prescription tranquility in everyday life

Visit Sweden highlights prescription activities, nature as medicine and the art of being bored. It's basically about something we all long for: silence, slowness, time to slow down.

Many of the elements that Visit Sweden mentions are already present in everyday life here at Båsenberga:

  • Daily walks in the Sörmland countryside
  • Sauna and cold dip by the lake
  • Slow meals prepared with local ingredients and inspiration from the pantry we live in
  • Time for reflection and silence
  •

It's not about performance or schedules. It's about presence, rest, and truly landing. It's these small, slow moments that make winter meaningful – and that give you strength for spring when everything blooms again.

Winter days with meaning

Living in step with winter is not about doing nothing. It’s about doing fewer things – more slowly. At Båsenberga, winter days are filled with what really does you good: walks, saunas, conversations, laughter and meals where the season takes center stage. Here, every day becomes an opportunity to slow down, listen to nature and gain strength.

Silence as strength

Winter rest is not weakness. It is a prerequisite for what is to come. When we allow ourselves to slow down now, we build strength for spring. We recharge our bodies and minds, just as nature does during its quiet months. When the snow melts and the trees begin to bloom, we have our own strength to bloom with.

A place to land

Båsenberga is a hotel in Sörmland where winter doesn't need to be filled – it can be as it is. Quiet. Beautiful. Meaningful. Here there is space for reflection, recovery and the simple life.

As I see it, this is not just a trend. It is a need we all share. And when 2026 comes, I hope that more people will bring the rhythm of winter, the stillness and the power of nature into their own lives.

Welcome to land with us.
Welcome to slow down.
And welcome to rest with winter.
